Geometric print dress

Hey guys, it has been a long time. I've been super busy at many different things. I'm so busy that I don't get to spend as much time looking at the many sewing blog sites I follow, and that makes me sad. I'm so out of it concerning what's happening in the online sewing community....all I know now is that Sally started a Deer and Doe sew along. What other major things am I missing? It has also been a tough week with school registration, sampling and one of my best friends dad passed away so I am not in my best mood.

Anyway today I am here to show you a dress I made not too long ago. My husband and I call it Young and Free because the vibrancy reminds us of that Hillsong album called Young&Free (great gospel stuff). The dress was made using a Butterick pattern B5947. It's a pouch of dress patterns with three different bodice looks, all of which are great styles especially for work wear.

The fabric, that fabric......Ohhhh the FABRIC, isn't it gorgeous? As soon as I saw it in-store I just had to get it, as a matter of fact I wanted to buy about 6 yards and make everything possible with it; pants, a pencil skirt, a cropped top, you name it. It's a cotton stretch sateen. Don't you love it? If you follow me on Instagram you might have had a glimpse of it back when I purchased it.

The pattern was great and I'll definitely sew it up again. I shortened the bodice by 1 inch all around and removed about 1/2 inch more at the back waistline grading it toward the sides to remove the funny bulges you tend to see at the back waistline. I cut the bodice in a size 8 which is the smallest size and graded to a 10 at the waist and hip. My only problem with the finished dress is that it chokes me a bit. I'd cut the neckline down an inch next time.

Thanks for viewing! I really hope the fabric makes you smile as much as it makes me smile.

God bless!
